Peers Can Be Great Mentors

For most of us, when we picture a mentor, our minds go to an older, wiser colleague or friend who has decades more experience. However, I’ve found that some of my most valuable mentors have been peer mentors.

Our very own UofU UWHEN Chapter is trying to make peer mentorship even easier for you. A couple of years ago, we piloted UPEEPS, a virtual peer mentorship program for staff that brought together people on campus via a video conference 1/month. Topics were organic, based on the interests of folks on the phone.

Now, that group is working on "UPEEPS 2.0" if you will, conducting a 2nd pilot in partnership with the Department of Internal Medicine to learn how to make the program even MORE effective and how to scale to the rest of the U. Stay tuned!

In the meantime, don't forget that your peers can be great mentors for you. And, if you are looking for new peers, UWHEN has opportunities every month, like our Women at the U Social at the University Marriott the last Friday of the month, to help you meet that next great peer mentor.
